Jefferies expands into Canada

Jefferies have recently announced that will expand investment banking into Canada. They have appointed Steven Latimer to be the Managing Director and Head of Canadian Investments.

The global investment banking firm, which has been serving corporate clients for over 50 years, provides expertise and insight to companies and governments alike. Jefferies, initially established in New York, offers a complete range of investment banking advice across America, Europe and Asia.

Steven Latimer will initially focus on the Metals and Mining sector in Toronto and will eventually branch out. According to Benjamin Lorello, Global Head of Investment Banking Capital and Markets, expanding into Canada will allow them to benefit from an increased in exposure into the mining sector on a global scale. Canada accounts for almost 25% of all mining investment banking worldwide. It will also allow Jefferies to serve neighbouring clients in Canada with ease.

Steve has over 22 years of experience in investment banking under his belt. Formally an employee in Credit Suisse where he was the Head of Canadian Metals and Mining Investment Banking, also based in Toronto. Prior to that, Steve spent 15 in Investment Banking at UBS Securities.

The Global Head of Metals and Mining Investment Banking, Peter Bacchus, claims that they enthusiastically welcome Steve to their team. Peter claims Steve’s extensive experience in the mining sector and significant client base makes him the perfect match for this role. Peter claims they are well situated to provide strategic M&A and capital markets advice to mining clients globally.
