The opportunity
A multi-billion-dollar Singapore-headquartered private markets fund manager is building its dedicated compliance function in Singapore. The firm is undergoing a significant global combination that will materially expand its platform. Securing a Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS)-literate compliance leader locally is a prerequisite for the licensing that underpins the enlarged platform — making this a business-critical, high-visibility hire.
This is a rare opportunity to own compliance end-to-end for a growing global manager at a pivotal moment, working directly with senior leadership.
The role
As the firm's designated compliance professional in Singapore, you will establish and run the compliance framework for a licensed fund manager operating under the MAS Capital Markets Services (CMS) regime. You will begin as a sole-charge, one-person function with scope to build a small team as the platform scales.
Key responsibilities
- Act as the firm's designated / appointed compliance representative for its MAS CMS licence in Singapore.
- Own the compliance framework under the Securities and Futures Act (SFA) and Securities and Futures Regulations as applied to a private equity fund manager.
- Manage MAS licensing, representative notifications and fit-and-proper obligations, including any variations arising from the group combination.
- Run the AML / CFT programme in line with MAS Notices and Guidelines — customer due diligence, sanctions and name screening, and suspicious transaction reporting.
- Prepare and submit periodic regulatory returns; manage MAS liaison, inspections and ad hoc regulatory queries.
- Advise investment and deal teams on regulatory implications; support fund structuring, custody, valuation and reporting controls.
- Manage incidents, breaches and complaints; maintain compliance policies, registers and training.
- Where a legal background exists, support light legal and contract review.
Essential requirements
- 10–15 years' compliance experience, at senior manager to director level.
- Hands-on MAS compliance experience within a licensed fund manager (CMS licence / SFA regime).
- Strong working knowledge of MAS requirements as applied to private equity fund managers.
- Track record as — or readiness to be appointed — a fit-and-proper appointed representative with MAS.
- Able to operate autonomously as a sole-charge compliance function.
- Singapore-based and able to work on-site five days a week, full time.
Preferred
- Exposure to cross-border or multi-jurisdiction fund platforms.
- Availability at short notice
