The Opportunity
An established global investment solutions firm, with a dedicated asset management business, is building its Asia Pacific institutional distribution franchise from Singapore. This is the firm’s first dedicated asset management hire in the region — a hands-on, frontline sales role for someone who has already sold public markets investment products to institutional investors across APAC.
The platform has global scale, institutional backing, and established investment, product, portfolio management, marketing, legal, compliance, and RFP support across the US and Europe. The APAC mandate is product-led, with particular focus on long-only equity, factor-based equity, smart beta, systematic equity, and quantitative equity strategies .
Liquid alternatives and credit-related strategies are part of the broader platform, but the core priority for this hire is clear: open institutional doors and convert mandates for listed / liquid asset management products.
Singapore will be the regional base. The successful candidate will build the APAC client base from the ground up, starting from their own institutional relationships across Singapore, Korea, and broader APAC markets.
The Role
This is a frontline institutional business development role. It is not a team-management seat, regional figurehead role, or relationship-maintenance position.
You will be responsible for:
- Originating and closing new institutional business across long-only equity, factor-based equity, smart beta, systematic equity, quantitative equity, and related listed / liquid asset management products
- Building relationships with sovereign wealth funds, pension funds, insurers, investment consultants, central banks, private banks, and other institutional allocators across APAC
- Leading the full sales cycle from initial engagement and investor education through due diligence, RFP / DDQ, and mandate award
- Representing the firm credibly in front of CIOs, investment teams, consultants, and institutional decision-makers
- Working with global product specialists, portfolio managers, marketing, legal, compliance, and RFP teams to support client discussions
- Providing market intelligence on APAC investor appetite, competitor positioning, pricing, product demand, and distribution opportunities
You will report into senior asset management leadership overseas. You will have global support, but you will not inherit a local APAC book or local sales team. The expectation is that you can operate independently, build trust with institutional investors, and turn relationships into measurable AUM growth.
What Makes You a Fit
You will likely have:
- Proven experience selling asset management products to institutional investors in APAC
- Specific experience distributing long-only equity, factor-based equity, smart beta, systematic equity, or quantitative equity strategies
- A track record of personally originating and closing institutional mandates, with clear examples of investor type, product sold, market covered, and AUM raised
- Direct relationships across sovereign wealth funds, pension funds, insurers, investment consultants, central banks, private banks, or similar institutional allocators
- Strong technical fluency in public markets investment products, including equity strategy positioning, factor exposures, portfolio construction, performance drivers, risk characteristics, and due diligence requirements
- A hunter mindset and comfort building a market from scratch without relying on inherited accounts or a large local infrastructure
- Singapore-based status or the ability to be based in Singapore quickly. Singapore Citizenship or Permanent Residency is preferred
It would be an advantage if you also have:
- Experience selling liquid alternative products
- Experience covering sovereign wealth funds or pension funds
- ETF, index, or smart beta distribution experience
- Korea, Japan, or broader North Asia institutional coverage
- MAS Capital Markets Services Registered Representative status
